Adding Karas to your website

Karas is one script tag. It works on any website, on any platform, with no app to install and no plugin to maintain.

The tag

Paste it into your site template before the closing </body>. Your data-key is the widget key we send you at setup; it is specific to your account.

The async attribute matters: it keeps the script from blocking your page render. The bundle is about 22 kB compressed, and it loads its configuration separately once it starts.

Where to put it

Put it in a template that appears on every page, so the widget is available wherever a customer gets stuck. In most systems that is a layout, theme or footer file. Platform-specific instructions:

Checking it worked

Load any page of your site. The launcher appears in the corner within a second or two of the page settling. Open it and you should see your greeting, your agent's name, and your starter questions.

If nothing appears, the usual cause is that your domain is not on your account's allowlist — see Your widget key and domain allowlist.

What it will not disturb

The widget renders inside a closed shadow root, which means its styles and your site's styles cannot reach each other. Your CSS cannot restyle the widget, and the widget cannot restyle your site. It does not set cookies on your domain, and it does not load anything from a third-party host.
