Acceptable use and AI disclosure

Tell your visitors it is AI

Karas writes answers with a language model, and your visitors should know. The widget's footer note is the place to say so — for example, "Answers are AI-generated and cite our help centre."

This is good practice everywhere and increasingly a legal expectation. Under the EU AI Act, systems that interact with people are expected to make that interaction's nature clear. Giving the assistant an obviously non-human name helps, but an explicit line is what removes any doubt.

We do not enforce this, and we do not set it for you. It is your website and your disclosure to make — but if you ask us what to put there, this is what we will tell you.

What the assistant may be used for

Answering questions from documentation you have the right to use. That is the whole intended use.

What it may not be used for

Documentation you do not have the right to use. Do not send us a competitor's help centre, scraped content you have no licence to, or material you are contractually barred from processing.

Regulated advice presented as authoritative. Karas repeats what your documentation says. It is not a substitute for professional medical, legal or financial advice, and it must not be presented as one.

Content that would be unlawful to publish. If it should not be on your website, it should not be in your documentation either.

Deception about what it is. Do not configure it to claim to be a specific named human being, or to deny being an assistant when asked directly.

Circumventing the safety checks. Do not attempt to get the assistant to promise refunds, assert account states, or claim actions it has not taken. These checks exist to protect your customers and you.

Personal data in your documentation

Do not send us documentation containing personal data unless you have a lawful basis for it. Internal notes and exported tickets are the common accidents here — an export of your help centre is usually fine; an export of your ticket history usually is not.

What we will do about a breach

Talk to you first. Almost everything on this page is a mistake rather than an intent, and a conversation fixes it. For something serious or repeated we may suspend the service, and we will explain why before we do.

Reporting misuse

Email support@usekaras.com. If you have found an assistant on someone's site doing something on this list, tell us and we will look into it.
