Installing on Shopify
Karas goes on a Shopify store the same way it goes anywhere else: one script tag in your theme. There is no Shopify app to install.
Adding the tag to your theme
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
- Next to your live theme, open the … menu and choose Edit code.
- Under Layout, open
theme.liquid. - Find the closing
</body>tag near the bottom of the file. - Paste your script tag on the line directly above it:
<script src="https://api.usekaras.com/widget/v1.js"
data-key="wk_live_yourcompany" async></script>
- Click Save.
Load your storefront in a new tab. The launcher should appear in the corner.
If you use a theme app extension
If your theme supports app embeds and you would rather not edit theme.liquid,
you can add the tag through Custom Liquid in the theme editor, placed in a
section that appears on every template. Editing the layout file is more
reliable, because a section can be removed by anyone with theme access.
Keeping the tag through theme changes
The tag lives in your theme, so duplicating or replacing a theme will not carry it over. If you publish a new theme, add the tag again. A quick way to check after any theme change is simply to load your storefront and look for the launcher.
Handoff on Shopify
If you want visitors to reach your team through the widget, the helpdesk to connect is Gorgias. Shopify Inbox has no public way for us to open a conversation on your behalf, and Gorgias is what most Shopify stores run their support on. See Which helpdesks are supported.
What Karas can and cannot see
Karas answers from your documentation only. It has no connection to your Shopify admin, so it cannot look up an order, check a fulfilment status, or change a customer's details. A customer asking about a specific order should be handed to your team — the widget's Talk to a human control is how they do that.
